Oppo recently launched their new budget 5G smartphone, the Oppo A1. While not a flagship killer, the A1 packs some solid specs for its affordable price point of around 270 EUR.

Display and Design
The Oppo A1 sports a large 6.72-inch IPS LCD with a 1080 x 2400 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and 550 nits typical brightness (680 nits peak). The screen has a 20:9 aspect ratio and 86.5% screen-to-body ratio. Design-wise, it has a typical candy bar shape measuring 165.6 x 76.1 x 8.2mm and weighing 191/193g.

Internals and Software
Under the hood, the A1 runs Android 13 with Oppo’s ColorOS 13.1 skin on top. It’s powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G chipset, an octa-core processor with 2 Kryo 660 Gold cores at 2.2GHz and 6 Kryo 660 Silver cores at 1.7GHz. This is paired with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM. Storage is 256GB UFS 2.2 with a microSD slot for expansion.

Cameras
In the camera department, the Oppo A1 has a dual rear camera setup led by a 50MP f/1.8 main shooter with autofocus. There’s also a 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor. For selfies, it has an 8MP f/2.0 front camera. Both cameras can record 1080p 30fps video.

Battery and Charging
The phone packs a respectable 5,000mAh battery with 67W wired fast charging support. Oppo claims it can charge to 76% in just 30 minutes.

Connectivity
Connectivity options are decent with dual SIM, 5G, Wi-Fi AC, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, and a USB-C port. There’s no NFC but it does have an IR blaster.

Other Notes
Other highlights include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, stereo speakers, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It will be available in Black, Blue and Orange colors.

Pricing and Availability
The Oppo A1 is priced at around 142,000 Naira and went on sale starting April 14th, 2023.

The Oppo A1 seems like a good affordable option for those looking for a 5G phone with a large display, solid battery life, and capable performance for basic tasks. It cuts some corners with just an LCD panel and basic cameras but makes up for it with fast charging and stereo speakers. For the price, it covers the essentials reasonably well.
