Oppo recently unveiled its latest affordable smartphone, the Oppo A18. This budget-friendly device packs some decent specs for its low price point. Let’s dive into what the A18 has to offer:

Design and Display
The Oppo A18 sports a familiar design with a 6.56-inch IPS LCD that has a 720 x 1612 resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. The peak brightness is rated at 720 nits. It has a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera. On the back is a dual-camera setup. The body has a thickness of 8.2mm and weighs 188 grams. It also has IP54 dust and splash resistance.

Internals and Software
Powering the A18 is the MediaTek Helio G85 chipset built on a 12nm process. It’s an octa-core CPU with 2 Cortex-A75 cores at 2GHz and 6 Cortex-A55 cores at 1.8GHz. For graphics, it utilizes the Mali-G52 MC2 GPU. The A18 comes with either 4GB RAM and 64GB storage or 4GB RAM and 128GB storage, along with a microSD slot.

On the software side, it runs Android 13 out of the box with Oppo’s ColorOS 14 skin on top. Oppo has promised an update to Android 14 as well.

Camera Setup
The rear camera setup consists of an 8MP main camera with f/2.0 aperture and autofocus, accompanied by a 2MP depth sensor. For video, it can record at 1080p 30fps. The selfie camera uses a 5MP sensor with f/2.2 aperture and can also shoot 1080p video at 30fps.

Battery and Connectivity
Keeping the lights on is a beefy 5,000mAh battery. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS, and a USB-C 2.0 port. There’s no NFC or radio though.

Pricing and Availability
The Oppo A18 is priced at 170,000 in Nigeria for the base 4/64GB variant. It comes in two colors – Glowing Black and Glowing Blue. It went on sale starting October 5th, 2023.

The Oppo A18 seems like a decent budget option for those looking for a basic Android smartphone experience without breaking the bank. The large display, sizable battery, and promised Android 14 update are its key selling points in this price segment.
